Eckerd Golf Proves You Can Play 18 and Still Ace the Exam

It’s a classic stereotype: the college golfer spending four years working on their short game while their GPA slowly fades into a water hazard. Well, the boys at Eckerd College just took that narrative and launched it into the bay.

The GCAA (Golf Coaches Association of America) just dropped their 2025-26 academic honors, and the Tritons are walking away with some serious hardware for their transcript pile. Not only did they nab the PLATFORM Golf Team Academic Award, but they also secured the prestigious Presidents Special Recognition status.

To get the regular award, a squad needs a 3.0. To hit that President’s tier? You’re looking at a collective team GPA of 3.5 or higher. Think about that for a second. While most of us were struggling to find our keys in college, these guys were balancing tournament travel, 6:00 AM tee times, and high-level coursework—all while maintaining better grades than most of the people sitting in the library.

It’s a massive win for a program that consistently represents St. Pete with class. It’s one thing to navigate the wind at the local links; it’s another to navigate a syllabus with that kind of precision. This marks another year where Eckerd proves they aren't just participating in the Sunshine State Conference—they’re setting the bar for what a student-athlete actually looks like.
