The Tritons prove they aren't just threats on the diamond, landing 14 players on the NFCA Scholar-Athlete list.

While most of us spent our college years trying to remember where we parked our bikes near the waterfront, the Eckerd softball squad was busy maintaining a higher GPA than most corporate boardrooms.

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) just dropped their academic honors, and our Tritons are officially top of the class. The squad was named a recipient of the Team Academic Award, proving that the grind doesn’t stop when they step off the dirt and into the library.

It’s not just a collective effort, either. Fourteen individuals—yeah, you read that right, nearly the whole roster—were named NFCA Scholar-Athletes. To make that cut, you have to maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher while dealing with the travel, practice, and heat that comes with being a DII athlete in St. Pete.

We love a team that can turn a double play and then go ace a chemistry final. In an era where "student-athlete" sometimes feels like a marketing term, these women are actually doing the work.

Congrats to the team for showing the rest of the Sunshine State Conference how it’s done. We’ll see you at the Turley Athletic Complex this spring, but for now, enjoy the well-earned bragging rights.
