Eckerd Golf Proves You Can Actually Read a Textbook and a Green at the Same Time

It’s a classic stereotype: the college athlete who spends more time at the training table than the library. But over at Eckerd College, the men’s golf team is busy dismantling that narrative while probably sinking a few 20-footers in the process.

Today, the GCAA dropped their list of Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars for the 2025-26 season, and the Tritons took a massive chunk of the recognition. We’re not talking about one lucky standout, either. Five—count ‘em, five—Tritons made the cut.

Josh DiZinno, Thayne Thomas, Reggie Fear, Tyler Van Dusen, and Drew Campbell all earned the nod.

To be clear, this isn't a participation trophy for showing up to a lecture hall once a week. To be a GCAA All-America Scholar, you’ve got to be a sophomore, junior, or senior who maintains a stroke average under 78.0 while keeping a cumulative GPA above 3.2. You also have to be of high moral character, which we assume means they don't throw their clubs into the water hazards at St. Pete Country Club when a putt lips out.

It’s one thing to navigate the wind off the Gulf; it’s another to do it while keeping your grades high enough to make the rest of us look bad. While most of us are just trying to find our ball in the rough, these five are busy stacking accolades in Norman, Oklahoma, and back home in the Sunshine City.

If you see these guys around campus or at the range, give them a nod. It takes a specific kind of grind to master the fairway and the finals week schedule simultaneously.
