Nerds on the Diamond: Eckerd Baseball Crushes It in the Classroom

Let’s be honest: when you think of college baseball, you’re usually thinking about sunflower seeds, dugout chirps, and the hunt for the perfect curveball. You aren’t necessarily thinking about a 3.0 cumulative GPA. But over at Eckerd College, the Tritons are apparently doing both.

The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) just dropped their list for the **Team Academic Excellence Award**, and our local boys in South St. Pete made the cut. It’s not just about one kid carrying the group project, either—to land this nod, the entire roster has to maintain a combined GPA of 3.0 or higher for the entire 2025-26 academic year.

It’s a solid look for a program that spends a massive chunk of their spring traveling across the Sunshine State. While most of us struggle to answer an email after a long day at the beach, these guys are balancing bus rides, doubleheaders, and final exams without letting the average slip.

In a sports world where "student-athlete" sometimes feels like a polite suggestion, the Tritons are actually putting in the work under the library lights. Head coach Josh Beauregard’s squad is proving that you can play high-level Division II ball in the toughest conference in the country and still keep your transcript clean enough to show your grandmother.
