Tampa Bay
Rays
Small market, big roster churn, always in the mix. Weeknight tickets at the Trop are frequently the cheapest live pro sports you'll find anywhere in Florida.

Tropicana Field
1 Tropicana Dr, St. Petersburg, FL 33705
The Trop is a domed, fully air-conditioned ballpark — the only rain-proof, heat-proof pro venue in the bay. Right on the edge of downtown St. Pete and the Grand Central district.
- Capacity
- ~25,000
- Opened
- 1990
Getting there
- From central Pinellas: I-275 south → exit 22 (Fifth Ave N) or exit 23A, about 20 minutes.
- From the beaches: Central Ave or Gulf-to-Bay → I-275 south into downtown St. Pete.
- From Tampa: I-275 south over the Howard Frankland, about 30 minutes off-peak.
Parking
- On-site Tropicana Field lots run roughly $20–$25; prepay online to skip the gate line.
- Downtown St. Pete garages are $5–$10 and a 10–15 minute walk through the Edge District.
- Rideshare drop-off on 16th St S clears out fast after the last out.
Know before you go
- Kids' promos and giveaway nights are the best value on the calendar.
- It's a dome — no rainouts, and bring a light layer because the A/C runs cold.
- Sit behind the plate or down the third-base line for the best sightlines.
- Make a night of it: Central Ave breweries and Ferg's are a short walk away.
Before the gates
Tailgating Rays
Rays pregame is a parking-lot cookout in the best Florida way — shade tents, dominoes and jerk chicken in the surrounding lots before first pitch.
Lot 2 / 1st Ave S
Closest to the rotunda gate and the easiest walk in. Fills first on weekend games.
16th Street lots
Cheaper, more room to spread out. The regular tailgate crowd sets up here.
Central Ave district
Not a tailgate, but a great pregame — walk over from the Grand Central bars and breweries.
What to bring
- Canopy or umbrella — no shade in an open lot
- Bug spray for evening games
- Cooler with plenty of water, not just beer
- Folding table plus chairs for the whole crew
- Sunglasses and a hat for a day game
Lot rules
- Tailgate within your own space — no blocking drive aisles
- No open flame under any covered structure
- Glass containers aren't allowed in the lots
- Wrap up and clean your area before first pitch
- Only sealed water bottles come through the gates
